I think the episode you're thinking of is called ';Kids'; which was the 19th episode from Season One. Cameron had quit the team and House was interviewing other doctors to take her place but he kept finding reasons why he wouldn't hire them.
In this case, a young man was trying to impress House by acting like a non-conformist. When House noticed the tattoo of an Asian letter, House told him that wasn't being a rebel because everyone did that. If the guy wanted to act like he didn't care what people thought, then he should wear a pocket protector and stop trying to be cool.
